YOUR HEART AND GOD'S PURPOSE
YOUR HEART AND GOD’S PURPOSE
Josephat S. Hema
The Issue of Gods purpose to one’s life has been a
great debate in people’s hearts; many people have been spending a long life
moments in searching to understand what exactly they are here on Earth for. This
burning question has been a result of many sermons on God’s purpose given by many
Pastors and Bible Scholars all around the World; some sermons have been a great
help though some can make someone get confused. Famous people like the Late Dr
Myles Munroe have written a great deal of helpful books. Pastor Rick warren in
his famous book and best selling one called PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE has provided important
guides on how someone’s life can be meaningful on Earth.
I would like to share with you this little piece of
writing in what God gave me one Sunday morning after a mass, what I supposed to
be helpful. That day i had a non-formal discussion with two people, we happened
to be talking about Gods purpose for our lives and what it takes to reach the
destiny, how do you know your exact purpose? Are all God given purpose get
fulfilled? Why some peoples passions get blocked and die on the way leaving
them disappointed greatly for a long time? And this last part is what touched
me the most, pushed me to find out the precise answer, Thanks to God for his
faithfulness. I pray that God through Holy Spirit makes you understand beyond
this piece of writing and have effective practices in your life for His glory.
YOUR HEART
The Bible mention the heart as you can talk of the car’s
engine, the main controller of ones decisions and hence directions.
Proverbs 4:23
Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are
issues of life
Also in
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, desperately
wicked; who can know it?
That means the heart is the most influential factor in
ones character, to the extent that it determines one’s life status, it is
deceitful and wicked so that it should be well guided. If you don’t keep your
heart well, you life will be wicked too.
But the Psalmist gives us the better way of keeping
your heart safe and hence live a better life.
Psalms 119:9,10,11,100,105.
GOD’S PURPOSE
God’s purpose for your life is simply why God created
you, all what God created you for.
God created us to worship him. That’s supposed to be
the centre of our talk. He wanted us to glorify Him through praise, full faith and
obedience .So simply God’s main purpose is to glorify him.
However God gave us some assignments to do on Earth
that can be observed deductively (generally) and inductively (specifically)
from the Bible of which become the main source of our query whenever we discuss
about the purpose of God in our life.
Inductive purposes.
1. Increasing
Genesis 1:28
Abraham, Job, Noah, Cornelius. All people.
2. Great commission
Disciples. All people.
Deductive purposes.
Exodus 31:6
These are somewhat called God callings; they are
specific Heavenly assignments, spiritual tasks that a person gets from God and
has to fulfill them. a good example of people who got specific purposes are
Oholiab&Bezalel,Jeremiah,Samsom,David,Moses,Joseph,Paul,Jonas,Disciples,Mary-Jesus’
mother etc.
However the common thing about all these assignments
is the glory of God, peoples should
know that whether you know or you don’t know your specific purpose, you should
do everything for God’s glory.
Dr martin Luther, a 16th century church
reformer once said that Serving God is like the two hands of God, whereby the right hand signifies
those people serving him in religious matter, people like Pastors and Bishops
and the left hand is those people serving him RIGHTEOUSLY in secular activities
such as lawyers and political leaders. These people actually do the same thing.
So a specific or inductive call should not necessarily be a church oriented
activity; only it should be done righteously.
GODS PURPOSE AND YOUR HEART.
There is this close relationship between your heart
and God’s purpose in your life. Some people have been driven by their own
passions to do somethings, thinking that their passions are real purposes they
are supposed to cling in their life. But what God says?
Proverbs 21:2
Every way of man is right in his own eyes; but the
lord pondereth the heart.
Gods look into your heart to give your purpose, in Exodus
31:6 he say that He gives skills to wise hearted people. That means when God
gives you purpose he provides potential and
the way to make you reach the destination to the fullest, that is why
the psalmist says that “I have hidden your word in my heart and then your word
is the lamp unto my feet and the light to my path” in
Psalms 119:100,105.
Therefore to have a straighten way you have to keep a
good profile of pure , humble and obedient heart (James 4:10)
Proverbs 3:5-6
Conclusively;
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you’ll be able to
test and approve what Gods will is; his good, pleasing and perfect will.
As we said earlier about the power of your heart in
decision making, the heart happen to control your mind and hence to renew your
mind is to purify your heart and not being conformed to the pattern of the World
so that you will be able to know Gods wills, that is God’s purposes for your
life.
All people mentioned above (most, there are some
exceptions) are people who found their purposes by keeping their hearts pure, just
that. David was called from the wilderness, having knowing nothing of what was
happening back home. Joseph was just a slave, a servant and the prisoner who
seemed to be hopeless, the same to young boy Jeremiah and Virgin Mary.
GODS DISCPLINARY FACTORS (HEART FACTORS)
From your heart, God is interested in only two
important factors to give you purpose and lead all the way to accomplishments
and full Glory for his name’s sake.
1. OBEDIENCE
He gave laws to Israelites(Leviticus 2:23)and
commandments(Exodus 20) to assure them of his guide all the way, he gave them
clouds in the afternoon and pillars of fire at night to show them right way,for
they initially acknowledged him(Proverbs 3:5-6)
He also assured that Joseph’s dreams and visions to
reign got accomplished simply because Joseph remained obedient and integrious
all the way Genesis 37.
2. FAITH
Much about faith has been spoken in Hebrews 11, God
looks upon faith in your heart to give you purpose.
Faith and obedience in some ways seem to intertwine,
they seem to be too interdependent, and one can think obedience the result of
faith; of which it is the truth but not always.
In Numbers 20
We see that Moses who used to speak with God, no doubt
he had much faith; failed to disobey God by striking the rock instead of
talking to the rock to provide water for the stubborn Israelites. Moses didn’t
reach Canaan, the obvious purposed destination of all Israelites.
DISOBEDIENCE AND UNFAITHFULNESS
Failure to obey and have faith lead to wandering (loss
of direction), loss of confidence, lack of peace and confusion and sometimes
death on the way. Disobedience and unfaithfulness are sins.
Aarons mistake in Numbers 20:8-12
Israelites unfaithful mistakes in Numbers 14:20-24,
30-33,34,44,Led them into loss of God’s guidance. They wandered and lost many
years in the wilderness. At last only two faithful people from Egypt entered
Canaan, all the rebels died on the way.
Adams mistake made him coward,Genesis,he got lost from
God’s book of purpose as in accordance to Exodus 32:33-“I will blot you out of
my book”, that is why in Genesis 3:8,God asked “Adam, where are you?.
LOSING THIS DISCPLINARY FACTORS ON THE WAY HAS BEEN A
REASON THAT MANY PEOPLE LIVE UNHAPPY LIFE.LIVING PURPOSELESS LIFE, NOT BEING
SURE WITH WHAT TO DO OR NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY DO, OR NOT REACHING THEIR
PURPOSED DESTINATIONS.
However God gives a second chance for people who
suffer from disobedience and unfaithfulness, this all comes after repentance
Joel 1:12-13
And he says he will repay the years which have been
eaten by the locusts.
Joel 2:25
Christians should let Holy Spirit guide them in two important
places for them to live their purposes fully;
1. Keeping pure hearts.
2. Maintaining pure hearts.
Without forgetting that
ALL THINGS SHOULD BE DONE FOR GOD’S GLORY.
